4. Make sure you are planning!
The process of planning never hurts when you are writing a book. It helps get your ideas out on paper and helps you solidify your character and world building (which are two of your most important elements to writing your book!). If you do not get those elements right when planning your story, your writing can become a trainwreck. You want to know what you are writing about and how you want to take the story; you do not want you story to sound too long-winded when someone reads it.
Make sure you have everything the way that you want it and don’t rush too fast into writing. You do not have to finish writing a book really fast, even if you are pressured, take your time to perfect you characters and your setting! You want your story to be intriguing and something that readers will enjoy reading! Always plan before you write because you don’t want to jump into writing when you haven’t fully developed everything in your story!
5. Get an editor.
Having someone else’s eyes run through what you have written is always a good thing to do once you have finished writing a draft. Especially if they enjoy reading the type of genre that you are writing about. Ask for feedback and constructive criticism and take it into accordance that you can use what they have said to strengthen your writing and make the book even better that you made it the first time!
No one can proofread their own work. It is merely impossible. Even sometimes when I write short stories, I am too biased and I think that nothing is wrong but sometimes after having someone to look it over is the best option. No biased opinions and you have a different and fresh pair of eyes to help point out some of the errors in your writing. Listen to what your editor has to say, they will coach you through the mistakes and maybe you will learn a thing or two!
