Rating: 4/5 Stars

This book is currently not my favorite of the series but overall the book did have a lot of plot twists and explored a lot of avenues and different obstacles that they characters all had to face. Don’t get me wrong, but the romance in this novel is not my favorite thing in the world and kind of gets on my nerves a lot. I do not have any problems with this book besides the fact that the romance is getting a little bland and not every chapter should be about her wanting to get intimate with Adam. I love the idea of exploring more about each of their powers and what they can do to help establish society without the killing of innocent people.

While reading the second half of the book, a lot of stuff went down…especially when you find out that Adam is related to Warner… and what a coincidence that both of the brothers are in love with Juliette. And when they use Warner as a hostage to get two of their own back, more things are revealed and are very personal to Juliette, giving her hard decisions to make towards the end of the novel. Overall, this book was good and Tahereh Mafi’s writing never seems to fail me.

Synopsis: *provided by Goodreads*

“It should have taken Juliette a single touch to kill Warner. But his mysterious immunity to her deadly power has left her shaken, wondering why her ultimate defense mechanism failed against the person she needs protection from.

She and Adam were able to escape Warner’s clutches and join up with a group of rebels, many of whom have powers of their own. Juliette will finally be able to actively fight against The Reestablishment and try to fix her broken world. And perhaps these new allies can help her shed light on the secret behind Adam’s – and Warner’s – immunity to her killer skin.”
